DOVER, Del. (AP)- State officials are working on establishing a new kind of business entity in Delaware.
Gov. Jack Markell was scheduled to introduce legislation Thursday enabling the formation of public benefit corporations in Delaware.
Public benefit corporations are for-profit corporations intended that seek to balance the bottom line with social consciousness.
They are managed not only for the benefit of stockholders, as most corporations are, but also for community and public interests.
A handful of other states, including New York, California and neighboring Maryland, already recognize public benefit corporations.
