Del. Police Capture Woman Wanted for Escape

DOVER, Del.- Delaware State Police say a woman wanted for escape and other charges was arrested Monday after being located at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.  
 
At approximately 3:45 p.m., troopers looking for 32-year-old Shirley M. Smith of Dover located her in the parking lot of Dover Downs. Police said Smith was wanted for her involvement in an April 17 domestic incident where she escaped custody while at a hospital.
 
According to police, troopers observed Smith enter a vehicle and exit the parking lot. A trooper and a Dover police officer then stopped Smith's vehicle. Authorities said Smith refused to exit the vehicle, and had to be dragged from the vehicle while she attempted to kick the arresting officers.
 
Smith was transported to Troop 3, there she was charged with two counts of offensive touching of another with saliva, criminal impersonation, resisting arrest, third-degree escape, offensive touching and resisting arrest with force or violence. She was ordered held in the Baylor Women's Correctional Institute on $7,100 secured bail. She was also arraigned on several capiases.
