LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Salisbury University softball team took hold of No. 3 in the nation, climbing one spot, in the latest NFCA Division III Top 25 poll, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Salisbury (32-2) scored 25 runs with four home runs in its only doubleheader last week to sweep Capital Athletic Conference opponent Frostburg State University in two five-inning games. The Sea Gulls claimed 183 points in the poll.
Montclair State University now shares the top spot with the University of Texas at Tyler, after the Red Hawks split a doubleheader against Kean University last week. Both teams collected 195 points and split the first-place votes as Montclair claimed five and Texas-Tyler picked up three.
Emory University stumbled to No. 5 after a loss to LaGrange College while Trine University moved up to No. 4.
Postseason is now the name of the game as the Sea Gulls enter play in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Friday, April 26. As the top seed in the tournament, SU will host the two-day, double-elimination, championship tournament at the SU Softball Field. The Sea Gulls will take the field on Friday at 10 a.m., against No. 4 York (Pa.) College.
