CHESTERTOWN, MD -- On Monday, members and coaches of the Washinton College baseball team shaved their heads to support the Vs. Cancer Foundation. Through donations, the Shoremen raised over $1,000 for the foundation in less than a week.
According to its web site, the Vs. Cancer Foundation "is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving kids' lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts."
Athletic teams from across the country participate in fun events, such as head-shaving days, and raise funds in advance. One-hundred percent of the funds raised help fight cancer; fifty percent go toward local pediatric oncology programs, while the other fifty percent go toward international cancer research efforts.
