Gun Rights Groups Say 30 Local Laws Repealed

Posted:

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - A gun owners' rights group in Washington state says it has persuaded local governments in its home state and Virginia to repeal about 30 gun regulations that violated state laws.

Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb disclosed the number late Thursday in an email to The Associated Press.

He had previously called the number of repealed laws "significant" but said he couldn't provide a number.

The Bellevue, Wash.-based group has threatened to sue 35 Maryland counties or municipalities unless they repeal local gun regulations.

The foundation contends the local ordinances are illegal because Maryland has a "pre-emption" statute that says state gun regulations supersede county and municipal gun laws.
