Bethany Beach Police Officer Under Investigation

Posted: Updated:

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – The Delaware Special Investigation Unit is looking into the arrest of a Bethany Beach police officer for assault allegations.

Bethany Beach Police Lieutenant Richard Haden, 45, of Bethany Beach, reportedly assaulted a suspect who was in custody at the department headquarters, on March 3rd, according to investigators.

The Town of Bethany Beach turned over the investigation to the Attorney General's Office.

Authorities said the Attorney General's Office secured an indictment Monday, April 22nd from the Sussex County Grand Jury and charged Haden with one-count of third-degree-assault.

Haden turned himself in to Capital Police in Georgetown on April 22, according to the Attorney General's Office.

Police said Haden was released on a $500 unsecured bond.

Authorities will review the case on May 20.

An indictment is merely an allegation and is not evidence of guilt, according to the Delaware Department of Justice.
