Md. Republicans Replace House Leadership

Posted:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Republican lawmakers in the Maryland House of Delegates have elected new leadership.

Delegate Nicholaus Kipke, R-Anne Arundel, was elected on Tuesday as the GOP House minority leader, replacing Calvert County Republican Anthony O'Donnell.

Delegate Kathy Szeliga, R-Baltimore County, was also elected by Republican lawmakers to replace Eastern Shore Republican Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio as House minority whip.

While not revealing the official count, Kipke says the overall vote was one of "affirmation."

The change comes about a week after the Maryland Republican Party voted in a new state party chairman, Diana Waterman.

The newly elected team says that they look forward to strengthening their caucus in the next election and working with a broad coalition of organizations to tackle crime, poverty and education in the state.
