YORK, Pa.– Wesley College's Eric Willey was named the Capital Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday morning. This is the first CAC weekly award for Willey.
A freshman from Seaford, Del., Willey threw seven shutout innings as the Wolverines went on the road to blank Randolph-Macon, 2-0 in Wesley's regular season finale. Willey scattered just seven hits and two walks on the afternoon against the Yellow Jackets.
Willey threw 68.2 innings in his first collegiate season, ranking third overall in the CAC and first among freshman. Despite recording an impressive 2.88 earned run average, Willey finished the year with a 2-4 record and ranked second in the league with three complete games. He also threw eight-plus innings in a CAC Second Round matchup against Mary Washington, and was responsible for forcing six double plays as the Wolverines turned an NCAA All-Divisions record seven double plays in a single game.
Wesley finished the regular season with a 21-19 overall record, its eighth-straight year with at least that many victories.
