Shorewoman of the Week
Sophomore softball player Kristin Cooper (Georgetown, DE/Sussex Central) is this week's Shorewoman of the Week. Cooper went 2-0 with one save and a 0.95 ERA as the Shorewomen won the Centennial Conference Tournament to capture their first-ever conference title and first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Cooper's first pitching appearance in the tournament was in relief, as she allowed no runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout while picking up an eight-out save in Washington's tournament-opening 3-2 win over Muhlenberg. She then went the distance in the Shorewomen's 4-2 winners' bracket game over Haverford Saturday, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five batters. In Sunday's championship game, Cooper pitched a five-inning shutout, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out five batters as the Shorewomen rolled past Haverford, 9-0.
Cooper also went 3-for-6 at the plate with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored during the tournament.
Cooper was named the Centennial Conference's Pitcher of the Week.
