5 Shoremen Named All-Centennial Conference

LANCASTER, Pa.- Five Washington College men's lacrosse players have been named All-Centennial Conference in a vote conducted by the conference's nine head coaches.  Senior attackmanBennett Cord (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) and sophomore midfielder and face-off specialist Michael Trapp (White Plains, NY/White Plains) have been named to the All-Centennial first team, junior midfielder Hunter Nowicki (Baltimore, MD/Franklin) and junior defenseman Casey McKnight (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) have been named to the second team, and senior long-stick midfielder Jonny Poe (Coronado, CA/Coronado) has been named an honorable mention.

Cord, who was the 2012 Centennial Conference Player of the Year and is a repeat first-team selection, has put up teams highs of 31 goals, 28 assists, and 59 points this season. He also scooped up 25 ground balls on the year. He is currently tied for sixth in the Centennial Conference in goals, tied for assists in assists, and is ranked second in points. 

Trapp has won 198 of his 303 face-offs on the season. His face-off win percentage of .653 leads the conference, while his 113 ground balls on the year are third-most in the conference. He has also scored nine goals and assisted on another.

Nowicki has scored 20 goals and assisted on nine others, while also scooping up 27 ground balls. He is a repeat second-team selection.

McKnight has anchored Washington's close defense this year, piling up 26 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. He was named to the first team last season. 

Poe has a team-best 35 caused turnovers this season along with 41 ground balls and a pair of goals. He currently ranks third in the conference in caused turnovers.

The Shoremen, who went 12-4 in the regular season, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. They will open tournament play tomorrow with a 4:00 p.m. first-round home game against Colorado College.
