BROOKLINE, MA – The Blue Hens offense was limited to six hits and held in check by a pair of Husky pitchers as University of Delaware baseball team fell to Northeastern University, 3-1, in the second game of the Colonial Athletic Association weekend series Saturday afternoon at NU's Friedman Field.

Delaware's record dropped to 31-18 overall and 13-10 in the CAA while Northeastern's record improved to 26-22 overall and 10-13 in the conference.

"Today was just a great pitching match-up between Davis and Berger," said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman.  "We had our opportunities to score today, but just couldn't get the big hit needed."

The Blue Hens had scoring chances throughout the game as Delaware left 10 men on the bases and registered six hits in the loss. Tyler Powell and Zach Lopes led the Hens with two hits apiece.

Down 2-0 to Northeastern in the top of the fourth inning, UD's lone run was scored when Lopes drove in EJ Stoltzfus from second base on an RBI single.

Adam Davis (4-7) suffered the loss for the Blue Hens as the right-hander tossed eight innings and was charged with three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and six strikeouts.

"I'm really proud of how well Davis threw today," said Sherman.  "He's pitched in a lot of bad luck this season and continues to battle."

Aaron Barbosa, Rob Fonseca and Sean Lyons paced the Huskies with two hits each as Northeastern pocketed 10 hits in the win.

Northeastern took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Fonseca's two-run double.  The Huskies scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning courtesy of Brad Burcroff's solo home run.

Nick Berger (6-5) held the Blue Hens to one earned run on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched for his sixth win on the year.

Michael Foster (S, 2) completed the ninth inning without allowing a hit while walking one and striking out two.

The Blue Hens and Huskies complete their three-game weekend series with the finale on Sunday, May 12 at 12:00 p.m. at NU's Friedman Field.

In the rubber-match of the series, Delaware turns right-hander Matt Soren (4-3, 2.51 earned-run average) as Northeastern hands the ball to left-hander Kevin Ferguson (5-4, 2.34 ERA).
