Lara Andrews, Shelby Jones Represent University of Delaware on CAA Softball All-Tournament Team
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – University of
Delaware senior third baseman Lara Andrews and freshman leftfielder
Shelby Jones were each named to the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association
Softball All-Tournament Team after their performances
at the championship this week.
Andrews had a hit and a run scored
during both games for the Blue Hens at the CAA Tournament, as Delaware
fell to James Madison and Towson earlier this week. During Wednesday's
game against the Dukes, she led off the top
of the sixth inning with a single and eventually scored on a bases
loaded walk by Tori Conrad. Andrews then scored the Blue Hens' lone run
versus Towson on Thursday when she opened the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle and scored on Michelle
McKinnon's sacrifice fly.
Jones, a CAA All-Rookie Team
selection, was the only Blue Hen with two hits against James Madison, as
she finished 2 for 3 on the day. Jones then added a walk during Thursday's setback to the Tigers.
Andrews started all 57 games at
third base this season for Delaware, which finished with a 35-22 record,
one win shy of the UD single season mark. She tied for the team lead
with 28 RBI and four home runs, while ranking
second with 29 runs scored, 57 hits, and 11 doubles. Andrews batted
.313 during the campaign, working 14 walks on the season while striking
out just 13 times.
Despite playing just three seasons
in Newark, Andrews ends her Blue Hen career tied for fifth in school
history with nine home runs, tied for ninth with 25 doubles, 10th with
68 RBI, and 14th with 133 hits.
Jones enjoyed an outstanding
freshman campaign for the Blue Hens, ranking fourth on the team with 19
runs batted in while posting a .301 batting average, the fifth highest
on the squad. She tied Andrews for the team lead
by blasting four home runs, while adding 34 hits and 23 runs scored on
