INDIANAPOLIS – The Salisbury University baseball team is headed to the NCAA tournament as the Sea Gulls travel to Millington, Tenn., to face Randolph-Macon College as the No. 2 seed in the south regional at the USA Baseball Stadium on Wednesday in regional action, beginning their run toward a second NCAA College World Series appearance in three seasons.
The selection marks the 19th overall for second-seeded and fourth-ranked Salisbury (30-7). SU is one of only two schools in the nation to reach the NCAA tournament for at least the last 14 seasons (the State University of New York at Cortland at 20 is the other).
Salisbury comes into the tournament with a 39-37 (.513) all-time record in the postseason, including a 29-25 (.537) mark under 13th-year Head Coach Doug Fleetwood.
The six-team NCAA Millington Regional includes top seed Huntingdon College (30-9), No. 3 seed Millsaps College (34-11), No. 4 seed Bridgewater (Va.) College (33-11) and No. 6 seed Methodist University (24-20).
Salisbury won its 11th Capital Athletic Conference tournament championship with a 4-0 victory over York (Pa.) College on April 21 and with it, the league's automatic qualifier to the field of 56.
The Sea Gulls advanced to the regional championship game of the NCAA Newport News Regional in 2012 before falling to host Christopher Newport University. The last time Salisbury appeared in the NCAA Millington, Tenn., Regional, the Gulls won it, advancing to the 2011 College World Series.
Games times for the tournament have not yet been announced. Check www.suseagulls.com for more information as it becomes available.
