Salisbury Police Announce Gun Turn-In Day Results

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury police say a total of nine firearms were turned in to the department on Saturday during Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler's First Annual Statewide Gun Turn-In Day.

Anyone could turn in unloaded firearms, police said.

Authorities said seven handguns, one shotgun and one rifle were turned in to the Salisbury Police headquarters. Approximately 100 rounds of ammunition were also turned in during the event.

According to police, one reason some people gave for turning in guns and ammunition was that they been passed down from generation to generation and they no longer wanted it in their homes.

Police noted that the department does not sell guns that are turned in; instead they will be destroyed.
