Warmer Temps Bring Bed Bugs

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, Del.- As the weather begins to warm, you may start to get some unwanted guests underneath your sheets.

"They feel like little crabs biting you," said Shelia Caldwell, of Laurel. "They sting. They ich and they kind of burn."

With no invitation, bed bugs crawled into bed with Caldwell.

"They attacked all at once in various places, some places you may not even feel them and you get up and you got bumps from bedbugs."

Caldwell said she was bitten on her hands, kneck and chest. She was sleeping on a blanket of bedbugs.

"I told my friend get up there's bedbugs here or something and they're biting," shouted Caldwell.

Caldwell said she jumped out of the bed and found bedbugs crawling all over it.

Bug experts tell me in order to find bed bugs you should pull back the covers and check for any little black insects crawling around. Sometimes you may not know that they are there until they bite you.

"The bed bug that I saw, I didn't know it was a bed bug," said Caldwell. She added, "he was a pretty big one and I plucked him off the pillow. I just thought it was a bug."

A new 2013 Bugs Without Borders Survey shows a spike in bed bug infestations in the U.S.
According to the research, these little blood thirsty guys are busy during the summer, which gives Caldwell the chills.

"You just have to wash. I had to wash. I felt that I had to wash very, very good."

Bed bugs could end up anywhere, even in a five-star hotel. So sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite.
