DOVER, Del. - Whitney Hynson, a five-foot-six guard out of Perryville, Md., has committed to play women's basketball at Wesley College in the 2013-14 season, it was announced by head coach James Wearden on Thursday afternoon. Hynson is the first incoming student-athlete to commit to the Wolverines for next year.
A three-time All-County and two-time All-UCBAC selection, Hynson played all four years on Perryville's varsity team and served as the Panthers team captain in her junior and senior seasons. In her junior year, Hynson tallied 14.9 points per game from the point guard position to rank in the top five in Cecil County while also tallying three steals a contest. As a senior, Hynson was named the Cecil County Athlete of the Week when she scored a career-high 36 points in the First Round of the 1A North Region Playoffs and was named the Team MVP for the second-straight year.
Also an honor roll student, Hynson played her AAU basketball or the Maryland Jayhawks and Cecil County Cyclones. Hynson also volunteered with the Youth HIRED! Apprentice Program through the Aberdeen Proving Ground as well as Shooting Santa's for two families in Cecil County.
The Wolverines open the 2013-14 season at North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, November 16, in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
