Delaware Women¹s Rowing Set for Season-Ending Colonial Athletic Association Championships Sunday
FAIRFAX STATION, VA - The
University of Delaware women's rowing squad will be looking to close out
its 2013 season in grand style Sunday as the Blue Hens compete at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on
the Occoquan River in Sandy Run Regional Park.
Delaware, under the direction of
first-year head coach Kevin Gruber, will be one of six teams vying for
the CAA crown. The field includes Delaware, two-time defending champion
Northeastern, Boston University, 2010 champion
Buffalo, Drexel, and Eastern Michigan. Northeastern also won the
inaugural championship in 2009.
The Blue Hens will be looking to
improve upon last season's sixth place finish following consecutive
fifth place showings back in 2010 and 2011 and a third place performance
Last season, the Hens placed fifth
in the Varsity Fours and Second Varsity Eights races and sixth in the
Varsity Eights competition.
This year's championships will get underway Sunday
beginning with the Varsity Fours competition at 9:30 a.m. followed by
the Second Varsity Eights race at 9:45 a.m. and the Varsity Eights
competition at 10:05 a.m. Admission
to the event is free
Delaware's Varsity Fours team will
consist of coxswain Molly Gardner, Angela Quinn, Danielle Lawler,
Kaitlin Flood, and Shannon Bell).
The Second Varsity Eights boat will
include coxswain Jamie Noce, Denise Cirelli, Jennifer Majcher, Shannon
Taylor, Ally Crossman, Alexandra Cruz, Corey Holloway, Meredith Murphy,
and Lily Guttentag.
Delaware's Varsity Eights
contingent will include coxswain Hayley Diverio, Holly Dodge, Sarah
Slotoroff, Jennifer Kohler, Catherine Manner, Bethany Porter, Calla
Cissel, Bethany Callaway, and Alexandra Smart.
