Businesses Prepare for Memorial Day Weekend

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Shops and restaurants in Rehoboth Beach are gearing up for one of the busiest weekends of the year, when tourists flood the boardwalk for Memorial Day weekend.

Cabo Restaurant and Tequila Bar is one of the many businesses stocking up on extra food, drinks, supplies and staff ahead of the four-day rush.

"Right now currently we're getting all our orders together, getting everything organized, and settled in," said Michelle Orzechowski, who works the bar at Cabo. "We're getting prepared and ready."

Officials from the Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach Chambers of Commerce say this summer might be particularly busy with New Jersey still recovering from Superstorm Sandy. Businesses like the Henlopen Oyster House are preparing for crowds from New York and New Jersey who venture farther south.

"We've already seen New Jersey and New York license plates around town already," said Oyster House owner Joe Baker. "In the last few years, we've also seen an influx of people from that area, so I think this will be an even more-so push and we're ready."

They'll find out Friday, when the crowds begin to arrives by the masses.
