Del. State Police to Step up Patrols This Holiday Weekend

DOVER, Del.- Delaware State Police will step up road patrols over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

According to police, the patrols will focus on traffic enforcement and offering assistance to motorists in need.

Authorities said that in addition, the DSP Mounted Patrol Unit will be assisting the Dewey Beach Police Department with proactive patrols, and the DSP Maritime Unit's "Marine One" will be operating on the state's waterways to ensure boater safety and security.

Police said troopers intend to reduce traffic fatalities, and serious injuries on state highways during this start of the summer season.

Troopers said they will be focusing on distracted driving, motorists not wearing seat belts, unrestrained children in vehicles, and any aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, following too close, and especially, driving under the influence.
