WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP)- A Virginia State Police Trooper is seriously injured after a crash involving his motorcycle and another car in Prince William County.
Police say Sr. Trooper R.D. Best was heading north Friday morning on Route 234 on his police-issued Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Investigators say a Nissan Altima pulled into the trooper's path from a cross road.
Best's motorcycle collided with the front end of the Nissan. Police say Best was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the driver of the Nissan as 86-year-old William B. Hash of Melbourne, Fla. He was not injured. Hash was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
Best was on his regular patrol along Route 234 at the time of the crash. He was wearing his helmet.
