Ocean City Leaders Vote to Fund Skate Park

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Ocean City leaders have voted to fully fund a municipal skate park, reversing earlier plans that would have closed it for a period.

The decision on the Ocean Bowl Skate Park will cost Ocean City more than $21,000 in expenses.

Ocean City originally planned to close the park on weekdays between Labor Day and New Year's, except for holidays and special events, and to shut it down entirely in January and February.

But local skaters protested the decision and circulated an online petition that collected hundreds of signatures.

The skate park opened in 1976, and Ocean City calls it the country's oldest continuously operating municipal skate park.
