Woman on Motorized Scooter Struck, Killed in Md.


ELKRIDGE, Md. (AP)- Howard County police say a woman riding a motorized scooter was struck and killed by a box truck in Elkridge.

It happened about 6:10 a.m. Thursday on Business Parkway. Officers say 26-year-old Brandy Copeland of Elkridge was traveling on Roosevelt Boulevard and pulled out onto Business Parkway without stopping at the stop sign.

Police say she was hit by a box truck driven by 27-year-old as Travis Ashbury of Silver Spring.

Copeland was pronounced dead at the scene. Ashbury was not hurt. Officers do not expect to file charges.

Police say the kind of motorized scooter Copeland was operating is legal to drive on Maryland roads.
