NEWARK, Del. (AP)- Delaware State Police say a man was killed and two people were hurt in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Newark.

The accident happened about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Troopers say 65-year-old James A. Green of Wilmington was traveling south when he started to merge and hit a tractor-trailer.

Police say Green's car crossed through the median, striking two cars. Authorities say the car was in the northbound lanes when it was hit on the driver's side by another car. Those two cars came to rest against the concrete barrier.

Green was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his car, 35-year-old James Winn of Wilmington, was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the last car that was hit was treated and released.
