DOVER, Del.- Delaware State Police say a 23-year-old man who died in an early Friday motorcycle crash in Kent County was a member of the U.S. Air Force serving at Dover Air Force Base.

The victim was identified as Chad D. Boles of Dover.

Police said the accident occurred at around 4 a.m. Friday, as Boles was operating a 2008 Yamaha R6S motorcycle southbound on Bay Road (SR1) after just entering the highway from East Lebanon Road (SR10) in Dover. Troopers said that for unknown reasons, the motorcycle left the west side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. Boles was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the guardrail before landing on the west side of the roadway, investigators said. Police said the motorcycle continued approximately 300 feet before coming to a rest on the left shoulder of the roadway.

Troopers said Boles, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to investigators, Boles was an enlisted member of the Air Force serving at DAFB.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this crash. However, police said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
