STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WBOC/AP)- The westbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge have reopened after an injury to a contractor.

First Sgt. Jonathan Green, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, said the lanes reopened early Tuesday afternoon after the 52-year-old man was taken to a hospital.

He was first taken to Sandy Point State Park and then flown by Medevac to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Green said the man's injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The injured man, who was hit in the head by a 5-gallon paint can, was hard to get to because he was working from a catwalk system under the bridge.

Lanes were closed just after 11 a.m. They reopened at 12:38 p.m.
