SNOW HILL, Md.- The Worcester County murder trial of a man accused of killing a Sussex County, Del., mother has been postponed until fall.
The trial of 29-year-old Matthew Burton of Dagsboro, Del., was supposed to get under way Monday in Worcester County Circuit Court in Snow Hill. But it has been postponed until Oct. 29. There is no word yet as to why the trial has been delayed.
Burton is accused of killing 35-year-old Nicole Bennett of Millsboro, Del. Police said the mother of three was last heard from working late one evening in June 2012 at Bay Shore Community Church near Millsboro. Her body was later found off a dirt road near Whaleyville, located in Worcester County.
Burton, a church janitor and Tier I sex offender, is charged with first- and second-degree murder in connection with Bennett's death. He is also facing charges of first- and second-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sex offense, kidnapping and first-degree assault.
