Forecasters Warn of Severe Weather on Delmarva

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Officials in Delaware and Maryland are urging residents to prepare for severe weather.

National Weather Service officials say severe storms expected Thursday could bring heavy rain, large hail, damaging winds and flooding to the Delmarva Peninsula. Forecasters also say the storms could possibly lead to isolated tornadoes.

State and local officials have been warning residents to prepare for the storms and possible power outages. Delmarva Power, which is the peninsula's largest electricity supplier, says it is gearing up for a storm response and is advising customers to check their emergency supply kits.

The Delmarva Emergency Task Force, which includes emergency response agencies from Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, canceled a scheduled tabletop exercise in Georgetown on Thursday because of the potential for severe weather.
