Police ID Victim in Wicomico County Drowning

SHARPTOWN, Md.- Detectives with the Wicomico Bureau of Investigation have identified the victim of a drowning that occurred Wednesday night in Sharptown.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old George Douglas of Hurlock, Md.

At around 7:30 p.m., deputies with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office along with members of the WBI, were called to a reported drowning at Cherry Beach. Investigators said Douglas was seen entering the water and shortly thereafter going under. Bystanders searched for Douglas but could not locate him.

Fire/EMS crews were contacted and ultimately members of the Sharptown Fire Department's rescue dive team recovered Douglas from the water approximately 40 minutes later. Douglas was unresponsive, but transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
