Tornadoes, Hail Reported in Central, Southern Md.

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP)- Tens of thousands of power outages are reported following thunderstorms and possible tornadoes in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Montgomery County's emergency management office says it has gotten reports of a tornado touchdown Thursday afternoon near the northern Washington suburb of Aspen Hill.

Director Christopher Voss says there are also reports of a funnel cloud in the Olney area.

The state emergency management agency says there are reports of baseball-sized hail in southern Maryland.

The National Weather Service says it can't confirm any tornadoes until it is able to investigate the damage.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency reports about 68,000 power outages, mostly in Montgomery, St. Mary's and Wicomico counties.

Tens of thousands of power outages are reported in northern Virginia.
