DELMAR, Del.- Delaware State Police said a Saturday evening crash left one Delmar resident dead and two others injured.

Police said the crash happened at around 6:32 p.m., as 45-year-old Lisa A. Hicks was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt in the westbound lane of Pepperbox Road.

Troopers said that as the car approached Brittingham Road, it failed to negotiate the roadway's curve to the right and exited the south edge of the roadway.
Authorities said that as the car briefly traveled westward in a drainage ditch along the south side of Pepperbox Road before hitting a driveway culvert. The impact catapulted the vehicle, causing it to overturn several times before coming to rest, upright, in the intersection of Pepperbox and Brittingham Roads.
Hicks, who was properly restrained, was flown to Christiana Hospital where she was admitted in critical condition.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mindy Hicks, who was the front seat passenger in the car, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation says that she was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Police said the rear passenger, 32-year-old Ernest R. Doney, was not properly restrained and was ejected from the car, landing in a grassy area.

He was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., where he was admitted in serious condition.
Pepperbox Road was closed for approximately three hours on Saturday as police investigated and cleared the crash. The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation.
