Washington College Alum Hugh McAdam '08 to Row for Team USA


DORNEY, England- Hugh McAdam, a 2008 graduate of Washington College and four-year member of the men's rowing team at the school, will compete for the United States National Team at the 2013 Rowing World Cup II this Friday through Sunday at Eton Dorney, site of the rowing events during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

McAdam will be representing the U.S. in lightweight men's singles sculls. Over the past two years, he has emerged as one of the nation's top rowers in that event, winning the lightweight single sculls at the 2013 National Selection Regatta #1 and at the 2012 Fall Speed Order. He was second in the lightweight single sculls at the 2012 Head of the Charles, the 2012 Non-Olympic Cenior National Team trials, and the 2012 Elite Nationals and third in the event a the 2011 Head of the Charles. He also placed third in the lightweight double at the 2011 Pan-Am Trials and third in the lightweight quad sculls at the 2011 Senior National Team Trials.

McAdam had never rowed before joining the Shoremen's team as a walk-on during the fall of his freshman year in 2004. He quickly developed into one of the program's top rowers, earning All Mid-Atlantic Region honors in 2007 and 2008. He was named his team's MVP as a senior in 2008 and sat stroke in the Shoremen's lightweight four, which reached the grand final and finished fourth overall at the 2008 Dad Vail regatta. 

Competition in the lightweight men's singles sculls at the Rowing World Cup II will begin Friday morning at Eton Dorney with four heats. The event will progress through the remainder of the day Friday, as well as on Saturday, with the finals slated for Sunday morning.
