Smyrna Man Arrested for Child Sexual Abuse

Posted: Updated:

SMYRNA, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Smyrna man was arrested Monday after an investigation revealed he had been allegedly sexually abusing a child for more than a year at his home.

Police say the investigation started on June 11, when the mother of a 6-year-old girl contacted investigators to report that 30-year-old Michael A. Connor and the child were in a room together in Connor's home on Paddock Road, when the girl's mother tried to enter and Connor pushed the door shut.

Shortly thereafter, police said the girl's mother asked her about what happened in the room and the child said that Connor had tried to perform a lewd act on her. After being contacted by the relative, detectives setup an interview with the child, and that's when the child revealed that Connor had been sexually abusing her since July 2011.

On June 17, detectives arrested Connor and took him to Troop 2, where he was charged with attempted first-degree rape and continuous sexual abuse of a child. He was ordered held in the Howard. R. Young Correctional Institute on $160,000 cash bail.
