Dewey Attempting to Set Fireworks World Record

Posted: Updated:

DEWEY BEACH, Del.- Count Dewey Beach among the towns hosting a fireworks show this Fourth of July. But unlike other towns, Dewey might be making some history on Independence Day.

Alex Pires and John Snow, representing the business group Highway One, are attempting to set a Guinness World Record for most fireworks set off in a 10 minute period with a show put on above the bayside of Dewey Beach.

"It's going to be like a 10 minute grand finale," said Snow, who runs the popular Dewey bars North Beach and Ivy. "There will be lasers from behind the fireworks as well, it will be visually stunning."

Snow has been in contact with officials from Guinness World Records. Snow says he's been informed there is currently no world record for most fireworks set off in a 10 minute period.

The fireworks show is scheduled to start shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, joining Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and Ocean City as municipalities hosting firework shows on the beach.
