LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police say a woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head during a home invasion that occurred Tuesday morning west of Lewes.
Police said the incident happened at approximately 6:35 a.m. as two male suspects, one armed with a handgun, forced their way into a home located in the 33000 block of Foxglove Run in the Love Creek Mobile Home Park. Troopers said that once inside, the suspects entered a bedroom where a 38-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter.
Troopers said after the two were alerted to the intruders, one of the suspects fired a single round at the 38-year-old victim, striking her in the head. The suspects then fled the home in an unknown direction without taking any items or cash. The 12-year-old was then able to call 9-1-1 and give information into the incident. The child's mother was taken by EMS to a local hospital where she is currently being treated for the gunshot wound. Her condition is not yet available.
Police said detectives have determined through preliminary interviews and investigation that this was not a random act, and the victims may have been targeted in the home invasion.
