LEESBURG, Va. – Seniors Jared Morris, Leon Jones and Sean Hopkins have all been named to the Beyond Sports Network Division III Preseason Football All-American Team, it was announced late last week. Morris and Hopkins earned first team accolades while Jones was a third team selection.
A defensive back out of Toms River, N.J., Morris was a first team All-American in 2012, his first season on the defensive side of the ball. Morris led the Wolverines with six interceptions, helping the squad to a team-record 26 picks last year. His four interceptions in the season opener at East Texas Baptist in 2012 is a Wesley single-game record and he also finished the year third on the team with 76 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss.
Hopkins led all of NCAA Division III with an impressive 18.6 yards per punt return average in 2012. Hailing from nearby Georgetown, Del., Hopkins had eight returns of over 20 yards and five over forty, including a season-long 49 yard return for a touchdown at Huntingdon.
One of the premier corners in small college football, Jones was a BSN All-American in 2011 after picking off six passes, including a memorable 99-yard return for a touchdown in a comeback win over Linfield in the NCAA Playoffs. The native of Lindenwold, N.J., followed that up with two more interceptions at Mount Union in the NCAA Semifinals before recording three picks and 25 tackles in 2012.
The Wolverines, who have won 100 games since 2004 and made eight straight NCAA Playoff Appearances, open the 2013 season on Friday, September 6 against Widener at 6 p.m.
