St. Michaels Teen Arrested for Murder

Posted: Updated:

SAINT MICHAELS, Md.- A St. Michaels teen is behind bars on murder and related charges in connection with the death of an Easton teen whose body was found on the side of a road earlier this month.

Maryland State Police identified the suspect as 17-year-old Matthew Mikowski. He was taken into custody in Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon by members of the MSP Apprehension Team.  Mikowski is being held at a Berks County Jail awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Mikowski is being charged as an adult with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, second-degree assault and four counts of distribution of LSD.

Police said the investigation started back on June 10, after troopers responded to reports of a body in the area of Bozman-Neavitt Road and St. Michaels Road in Easton. The deceased was later identified as 18-year-old Samuel I. Cross of Easton.

An autopsy conducted by the state's medical examiner found the cause of death was asphyxiation and ruled the death a homicide.

Through their investigation, troopers determined Cross, Mikowski and a few other friends were together in an area behind Mikowski's home on June 9. Evidence showed the group may have been using LSD, police said.

Witnesses told investigators that Mikowski allegedly restrained Cross around the neck, resulting in his death. Investigators said they believe Cross' body was later placed near his vehicle by Mikowski, where it was later found by police.
