CLAYTON, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Dover woman died after the motor scooter she was riding on collided with a car in Clayton on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. as 58-year-old Kathy S. Goguen, of Dover, was operating a 2012 Kyus Yager motor scooter southbound on Alley Mill Road, approaching the intersection of Clayton Delaney Road. Police said that meantime, 20-year-old Megan E. Brewer, also of Dover, was operating a 2000 Dodge Neon westbound on Clayton Delaney Road, approaching the intersection of Alley Mill Road.

According to police, the intersection is controlled by a stop sign located on Alley Mill Road. Investigators said Goguen failed to remain stopped and drove into the right side of the Neon in the middle of the intersection. The scooter then fell onto its right side and Goguen was ejected, police said. Investigators said Brewer, who attempted to swerve to avoid the motor scooter, was able to come to a controlled stop west of the intersection.

Troopers said Goguen, who was wearing a helmet, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Kent General Hospital and subsequently pronounced dead.

Police said Brewer and a 21-year-old female passenger were properly restrained at the time of the crash. The 21-year-old was transported by EMS to Smyrna Urgent Care Center where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Brewer was not injured.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into the crash.
