Police Arrest Two Suspects in Ocean City Shooting

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Police arrested two men from Reading, Pa. for a shooting that happened early Saturday morning in Ocean City.

Police charged Elvin Jovany Mendez-Espada, 21, with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of first degree attempted murder and use of a handgun in a violent crime.

They also charged Carwin Duarte, 19, with second degree assault, disorderly conduct and affray.

Police said the two suspects were in the pool at the Islander Motel at 18th Street in Ocean City, and had a verbal argument with a group walking by. The argument escalated and Mendez-Espada took out a handgun and shot at two people, according to police.

Officers say the pair ran away from the scene, but police caught up to Duarte quickly on Dolphin Lane and later found Mendez-Espada hiding in the water under a boat dock at a home on Marlin Drive.

Police said one person was taken to PRMC for injuries, and is now in stable condition. Police said the second person was not injured.
