Man Fled Capsized Md. Boat by Smashing Window

Posted:

DEEP CREEK LAKE, Md. (AP) - A police report says a boat operator knocked out a window to escape from a vessel that sank at Deep Creek Lake.

The Natural Resources Police report says Lake Management employees Maxwell Anthony, the operator, and Seth Metheny were docked May 15 when winds sent waves over the side of the boat, where a removable dive door was open. A pump couldn't keep up with the incoming water.

The men tried to get the boat on plane to allow the water to drain off. Metheny was attempting to replace the dive door when the vessel capsized.

Metheny swam free, but Anthony had to knock out the window to escape.

The report cites the operator's inattention and inexperience as contributing factors. No charges were filed.
