Delaware’s Jimmy Yezzo Named ECAC Eastern Player of the Year; Joins Nick Ferdinand on All-East Squad
CENTERVILLE, Mass. -- Former
University of Delaware baseball standout Jimmy Yezzo gained another
prestigioius post-season award on Tuesday as the slugging first baseman was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference
(ECAC) NCAA Division I Eastern Player of the Year.
Yezzo, currently playing in the
minor leagues with the Washington Nationals organization, was joined on
the ECAC All-East first team by his teammate, senior outfielder Nick
Ferdinand. Delaware and the University of Virginia
were the only two schools to place multiple players on the first team.
The teams are selected by head coaches of ECAC member schools.
The two become the first UD players
to earn All-East honors since first baseman Steve Ulaky was a first
team pick in 2011. Yezzo is the first Blue Hen player to be named
ECAC Player of the Year since outfielder Kevin Mench
earned the award in 1998.
A native of Cherry Hill, N.J.
(Bishop Eustace High School), Yezzo continued his impressive run of
post-season honors as he earlier was named first team All-American by
Collegiate Baseball Magazine/Louisville Slugger All-American,

was selected the University of Delaware Outstanding Male Athlete of the
Year, and was a finalist for the Golden Spikes
National Player of the Year Award. He was selected in the seventh
round of the Major League Baseball Draft by Washington back in June and
is currently playing with the Rookie League Auburn (N.Y.) Doubledays.
Ferdinand, a senior from Bensalem,
Pa. (Archbishop Ryan HS), also continued his string of post-season
honors. The righthanded sluggler was earlier named third team
All-American by the ABCA, first team All-East Region by
the ABCA, and first team All-CAA. He was selected by Philadelphia in
the 35th round of the MLB Draft and is currently playing with the Gulf
Coast League Philadelphia Phillies in Florida.
