WILMINGTON, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Delaware's attorney general has created a special unit within the Department of Justice to focus on violent crimes against children.

Attorney General Beau Biden said Tuesday that the Child Victims Unit streamlines prosecutorial and social services in cases where children are victims of crime.

Officials say that, depending on the circumstances, such a case currently could be prosecuted by one of several units in the attorney general's office. The new unit includes staff from both the criminal and family divisions and is charged with prosecuting all child death cases and all life-threatening crimes against children.

The new unit is comprised of staff from both the Criminal and Family Divisions and is charged with prosecuting all child death cases and all life-threatening crimes of violence against children statewide. It also relies on two new positions – one prosecutor and one criminal investigator – provided by the General Assembly in the Fiscal Year 2014 budget.
