5th of July Fireworks in Hebron

HEBRON, Md. - The 4th of July fireworks show planned during the Hebron Fireman's Carnival had to be postponed until the 5th because the fireworks did not make it to town in time.

"We got a call about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon that the truck had broke down, had been DOT'd.  The Department of Transportation and Maryland State Police had got them for violations unknown at this time.  Not sure what happened but they couldn't get here so we couldn't have the fireworks last night," said Hebron Fire Chief, David Beach.

The truck carrying the fireworks to Hebron never made it.  However, the crowds had gathered and people had chosen their spots for the show.  Amber Abbott of Hebron was at the carnival and said she was disappointed like many others.

"A lot of people were really ticked off and a lot of them left because we weren't having them yesterday.  They said they weren't going to be joining tonight either," said Abbott.

There was nothing the fire department could do about the fireworks not arriving on time.  The chief said the fire department president quickly made phone calls, after hearing about the truck, to try and put together a last minute firework show for the carnival goers.  But it was simply too late in the day to pull anything off.  So, the show was moved to Friday and while some may not be returning for the display, Rachael Bailey of Salisbury said she was going to turn a positive into a negative.

"We were going to come to the fireworks but then there were other fireworks going on so I was just like, good, we will get to see two different fireworks two different nights," said Bailey.

The fireworks were scheduled to get underway Friday night in Hebron between 9 and 9:30.
