DOVER, Del. (WBOC)- Seven ducklings are doing OK after Friday's tremendous rain washed them into a storm drain.

That drain was in the Staples and Acme shopping center in Dover on US 13.

"We got a call Friday night about a mother duck that was standing over a storm grate," Major Brian Whipple, with Animal Control. "The person could hear the baby ducks down in there."

Whipple says two officer responded.

"They were able to get the grate off the ground. It was extremely heavy."

And they pulled out the ducklings. The seven brothers and sisters spent the night in Camden. The whole group is now at a rehab facility near Felton.

And as for mother duck, Whipple said, "Mom actually had taken off we got there."

Officers actually waited a while to see if she'd return. But she did not.

Whipple said none of the ducklings were injured, just, now, separated from their mother. He says eventually they should all be able to return to the wild.
