LONG NECK, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Delaware State Police said a woman who reported a handgun was stolen during a home invasion has been charged with making a false report.

Twenty-five-year-old Lauren L. Wingate of Long Neck was charged Thursday with providing a false statement to a law enforcement officer.

Troopers said Wingate reported on Tuesday afternoon that two men broke into her home, hit her in the face and stole a handgun before fleeing.

Detectives said they interviewed Wingate again and said she admitted to letting two men into her home and giving them her father's pain medication as payment for a drug debt. Authorities said Wingate removed the handgun from the home and placed it in a bush next to the dwelling to make it look as if there had been a home invasion.

Following her arrested on the aforementioned charge, Wingate was ordered held in default of $2,000 secured bond.
