Ellendale Man Injured in ATV Crash

ELLENDALE, Del.- Authorities say an Ellendale man suffered critical injuries when the ATV he was operating collided with a truck Sunday evening.

Delaware State Police said the accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. as 22-year-old Frederick J. Everitt was operating a Honda Rubicon 4-wheeler southbound on Webbs Road and approaching Beach Highway (SR16). 

Troopers said Everitt failed to remain stopped and turned eastbound on SR16 in front of a 1997 Nissan pickup truck being operated by 23-year-old David R. MacGregor, also of Ellendale.  The front of the truck struck the rear of the ATV ejecting Everitt into the roadway.
 
Everitt, who police said was not wearing a helmet, was removed from the scene and transported to Christiana Medical Center where he remains listed in critical condition.
 
Investigators said MacGregor and a 27-year-old passenger, who were properly restrained, were taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Troopers, who are still investigating the crash, said alcohol may have been a factor on behalf of Everitt. 

SR16 at Webbs Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
