Va. Minister Pleads Guilty to Torching His Home

Posted:

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A Petersburg minister has pleaded guilty to setting his rental home on fire.

Forty-one-year-old Olander D. Cuthrell faces at least five years in prison when he's sentenced Oct. 31.

Cuthrell pleaded guilty Tuesday in Chesterfield County Circuit Court to a felony arson charge. He had pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor arson charge stemming from a vehicle fire.

Cuthrell, who is black, had claimed that he was the victim of a hate crime.

Chesterfield County prosecutor Laura Khawaja says Cuthrell painted racist graffiti on his house and his front porch.

Cuthrell is a minister of music at Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Petersburg.
