Refunds to be Given for Speed Camera Citations

LA PLATA, Md. (AP) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office says drivers who paid citations from a speed camera at a Waldorf elementary school will be getting refunds because of the incorrect placement of the camera's cement pad.

The office announced Wednesday that it had suspended the use of its three speed cameras because of the placement issue. On Thursday, deputies said the camera pad at Jenifer Elementary School on Berry Road in Waldorf had been built outside of the school zone signs, putting it out of compliance with state regulations.

The department says it is working to get the refunds to drivers as quickly as possible.

Deputies emphasized that all other fines from any other speed enforcement site should be paid.
