ACCOMAC, Va.- Two people arrested in connection with a string of fires on Virginia's Eastern Shore have been indicted on arson and related charges.

The Accomack County grand jury on Monday handed down the indictments against 38-year-old Charles R. Smith III and 40-year-old Tonya S. Bundick, according to Virginia Commonwealth Attorney Gary Agar.

Smith was indicted on 67 counts of arson and one conspiracy to commit arson. Bundick was indicted on one count of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson.

Police have said the Parksley couple is responsible for the majority of the 77 arsons on the Eastern Shore since last fall. They were arrested April 2 following a fire at an abandoned structure in Melfa.

According to court documents, Smith told investigators he torched 52 unoccupied buildings and Bundick set fire to 15.

Smith and Bundick remain locked up in the Accomack County Jail.
