LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Millsboro man died in a motorcycle crash that occurred Monday night east of Laurel.

Police said the accident occurred at around 9 p.m. as 39-year-old Robert L. Dorman III was operating a2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound on Shiloh Church Road and approaching Scott Land Road. Troopers said Dorman came to a stop in the roadway with his left turn signal illuminated to allow a vehicle, traveling eastbound, to pass in order to make a left onto Scott Land Road.

Investigators said 17-year-old Kaetlin B. Burke, of Laurel, was operating a 2000 Honda Accord and traveling westbound on Shiloh Church Road and approached the stopped motorcycle when she failed to see it, and struck the rear of it at full speed.  The motorcycle became lodged in the engine compartment of the Honda and remained upright while the operator was forced rearward into the windshield, according to troopers.

Police said Dorman, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burke, who police said was properly restrained, was not injured in the collision.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. The intersection of Shiloh Church and Scott Land roads were closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
