Gov. O'Malley Attends Forum on Rising Overdose Deaths in MD

Posted:

ELKTON, Md. – Governor Martin O'Malley attended a roundtable discussion Friday that focused on the rise in drug overdose deaths in Maryland.

Last month, the health department reported that the number of deaths related to drug and alcohol overdose in the state rose 15 percent from 2011 to 2012. The rise was mostly driven by a 54 percent increase in heroin-related deaths.

Other Maryland jurisdictions plan to hold meetings this month with law enforcement and public health authorities to brainstorm how to best combat the increasing number of overdose deaths.
